Short little restaurant post for ya today!
Last Saturday, Conrad and I met up in Old Town for a quick bite. With the World Cup going on, we decided to meet at one of our old favorites, the Crown Pub to watch the game. The Crown Pub is the closest thing we have to a classic English pub, and boasts over 30 single malt Scotch whiskeys. Not-so little known secret? Their food is fantastic.
Since there was a happy hour going on, I started with my favorite drink on the menu, the Czech Yourself, made with a secret recipe consisting of Becherovka spirit, pressed grapefruit, and a splash of tonic. It’s spicy, tangy, slightly sweet, and just delicious. I could easily down a couple of these in one go (not a great idea in practice, but they are soo good).
Next we settled on Conrad’s favorite, the shoe-string pommes frites. Oh. My. GOD these are good. Perfectly crispy, salty, and just thin enough to make you feel like you haven’t just inhaled an entire basket of french fries. They come with your choice of two sides, and this time we went for Yellow Curry and Garlic Truffle Aioli.
There are no words for this appetizer. Literally everyone around us was eyeing those pommes frites.
For our mains, Conrad got the King’s Curry (grilled chicken and vegetables in a traditional yellow curry sauce served over jasmine rice). This came out piping hot, spicy, and moreish; the perfect compliment to the stormy weather outside.
I ordered the New York Steak Salad – a medium-rare New York strip on a bed of mixed greens with roasted red peppers, shaved red onions, bacon crumbles, and horseradish vinaigrette.
So many delicious flavors and textures in this. I practically licked my plate clean.
Crown Pub is dark and cozy inside, with an awesome back patio for warm summer nights. I wish I had taken more pictures of the interior to show you, but the food really stole the show. The staff are always extremely friendly, and the atmosphere is laid back, but sophisticated (as in, not like your usual crunchy-granola Fort Collins bar). It’s the perfect place to go on your own and enjoy a beer while watching a game, to go for after-work drinks with friends, or even have a family meal. Check out their menu here, and make sure to stop by if you’re in Fort Collins!
